Mageia

Postby viking60 » 19 Sep 2010, 13:13

This is a fork effort form all the old Mandriva (Edge IT) employees. No product to show yet, but supported by most of the communities. Time will tell if the lack of communication was a management problem in Mandriva or if in fact these guys are bad at it. (Well it's the same guys so the question is relevant).
I think they deserve every chance and wish them well. I have made a small contribution by translating their site to Norwegian, but my contribution is still awaiting "moderation".

The continuation of one of the best distros seems to be continued though - in some form. This is good for Linux. It remains to be seen if this fork will be successful.

Yeah, saw that in the MDV forum - very very nice. May check it out myself when it's released.

I guess we will see. We need the distro to come out first :D But it gives hope to all Mandriva users.

There is a lot of temperature in the "dialog" between Mageia fans and Mandriva fans. Mainly it is important to tell everybody how bad the opponent sux. I am having doubts about Mageias wishes to improve communication. The forum is clearly not a priority.
On the first glance that is only natural, because there is so much else to do. BUT being a new distro, it is of the essence to make it known to potential users. IOW if this baby is not kept warm it will die.
Exiting times..... :tux5:

Yeah, I agree, but think that a certain degree of that is to be expected. I mean we're talking former employees of Mandriva here - they're going to bash Mandriva. They do need to learn to see beyond that, though, and get out of the "fanboi-ism" of what they're doing, and move on to just doing, and doing what's right for the fork. If they waste too much time bashing what's already been, nothing will ever get done.

Keeping it secret and hidden in mailing list's does not sound smart to me. But many are against a forum. Might be bad experience I guess.
You can do that in one of the most known distros, but not in a new one IMO.
