Ok I have made a backup of my entire box with redo
Windows and Mandriva. It tooke about 4h.
I am mainly a gnome user.
At some point I paid for the powerpack but I don't anymore. That applet keeps notifying me that there is an update - and when I click it I have no access. So I do not have that update after all
Now I thought I should try an upgrade by changing my repos. You can find my hardware in the signature. This is the real deal and I thought i'd share it with you.
Any tips to avoid me falling on my nose are welcome (please hurry!).........

Yeah right! how? where? If I do it in MCC it will only add the 2010 repos again.
Oh well I have been around long enough to remember http://easyurpmi.zarb.org so I just go there and do my 2011 clicks.....
Ok That worked so I added the restricted repo that has replaced Plf:

I had a final look at the repos in MCC and... did http://easyurpmi.zarb.org only add 32 bit repos to my 64bit system?
Well I am not sure so I removed all my repos and started to add them from here in stead:

Not very impressive, but I guess it is no show stopper. ......
So it is time to reboot now and after that everything should be perfectly upgraded
....
And nothing has changed this is still Mandriva 2010.2

OK time to try a different approach then:
Changing the content of /etc/release from
Mandriva Linux release 2010.2 (Officia) for x86_64
to
Mandriva Linux release 2011.0 (Official) for x86_64
removing all the repos with

Going to MCC and trying to add the official repos....
That worked!
Adding restricted (plf) again:

So sad.

I tried similar, remember the instruction. Would not even boot. I wonder about all the MIB stuff I had installed for 2010.2 and, moreso, the transition from rpm4 to rpm5, which was attended by much wailing and gnashing of teeth @cooker mailing list leading up to the release of 2011. I itch, a little, to bound forward into .......
but I think I will cool my jets a little while more..

It just does not complete the process due to a lot of dependencies. I agree with you:

One Guru-Berserk and one Über-Berserk coming to the same conclusion; That is definitely not good news for our Russian friends.
Mandriva 2011 works when installing from scratch. But upgrading is fubared. Restoring my backup and going for a lot of whiskey.

Back again from a lot of Whiskey with a royal pain in the head (I shall never drink again). And after this experience I will boycott Vodka for sure!
I am not sure what to do now So for the first time I am seriously thinking about replacing Mandriva.
But I will hold my horses for now and just continue with 2010.2

I'm not sure what to think. There are, apparently, some/many who have a working installation of 2011 and some/many who can't make that happen.

Yes That is not a good sign. On the other hand they have a paid forum moderator and that is new.
But all in all I have a bad feeling about this.
Doing new and innovative stuff is fine. But doing it in a way that it is not compatible with your own product is kind of suicide. They get a lot of customers with fresh installs. But they loose all the old ones.
Sad - we really need Mandriva in the Linux world. A good Mandriva.

I don't think so. I had powerpack repos that were not accessible. Right now I am playing arround with it after the update fubared. I just rebooted and it keeps updating. I am curious what happens next. Probably the same error but it is worth a shot......
I actually thought I should convert my home to Arch (well and install Arch of course) when I decided to see what hapens when rebooting a failed 2010.2 upgrade.
It is doing a gui upgrade now. Will be interesting to see if the rpm database is functional etc etc.
Maybe I have not been persistant enough
