I got some hardware under the Christmas tree this year; a Boxee Box. The pics are not edited; it has this asymmetry by design.
It livens up among countless square boxes. :-D
Processor is Intel Atom CE4100.
It has SD slots so you can read the cards from your camera.
It has a double sided remote control and is a media center.
It has no Harddisk but it will detect the other computers via wifi or you can attach a HD via USB directly to it, or just the traditional cat5 cable ofcourse.
It is a Linux box with a fork of xmbc. The Boxee software is in the Arch aur and Ubuntu has it in the repos (in case you want to use it on other boxes , or just to try before you buy). Personally I think the traditional xbmc does the job better on a PC.
You can fit it to your 16:9 screen or 16:10 - it has a lot of options so it will fit everywhere with the best resolution.
You can add apps to rent films use spotify (I don't) or be social in every way.
It is about films and Music and it does the job very well. Attach it with the Hdmi cable and the rest is a piece of cake. And it fits between your thumb and your fingertip.
The remote control is brilliant with QWERTY-keyboard on one side, and traditional remote control on the other side.
Boxee will play stuff that Windows has trouble with, and the resolution is great. Boxee can play back any video format with a three-letter file extension!
The software is open source, so you can install it on a laptop and use that but it does not look all that good in front of a TV.
All I need now is an Auto HDMI-switch and life will be good.

So does everyone need this?
No - but it is the perfect gift for geeky techie berserks (Well it beats ties and socks +1) and it has that design qualities that makes your life better and more successful, so even Apple users might fall for it.
